Stephen Elop, Nokia's former CEO, who according to reports is also in the books to take over at Microsoft might turn things around in a major way by bringing Office to more platforms and shutting down the Bing search engine and Xbox gaming device, if he takes over at the company, report says
According to a report by Bloomberg, Elop would offer Microsofts popular Office such as Word,Excel and Powerpoint on other smartphone and tablet platforms, including Android and iOS.
Microsoft currently offers Office apps on Android and iOS smartphones but its function is limited and only to users who subscribe to its Office 365 service, Tablets that don't run on windows also gets the Office apps as Microsoft feels that Office is a USP of Windows-powered hardware including the surface tablets that it makes
The report says Elop is going to focus on select products that are profitable and would shutdown major business segment to do that, Microsoft Bing Search Engine could be shutdwon and Xbox could be sold if Elop feels that were not so crucial to the company
it also says that Elop did same at Nokia with its Here mapping services and he could impose Job cuts to make the teams at Microsoft smaller as he did at Nokia
Well, these reports are based people's awareness of an individual's thinking, Microsoft did have something to say about the bloomberg report
"We appreciate Bloomberg's foray into fiction and look forward to future episodes," said Frank Shaw, a spokesman for Microsoft, taking a dig at the publication.
Elop is prepping to return to Microsft, his former employer, after closure of its 5.44 billion euros acquisition of Nokia's handset business, which prompted some finnish media to dub him a "Trojan horse"
