Samsung to pay Apple $290 million

Samsung Electronics has been ordered to pay Apple $290 million for copying features of the iPhone and iPad by a jury, they were also supposed to pay Apple $640 million from a previous trial.

Samsung said they will appeal(before nko)the $930 million in damages in a San Jose federal courthouse that is a 15- minute drive from Apple's cupertino Headquarters...


A jury last year gave Apple $1.05 billion after finding 26 Samsung devices infringed Apple's patents, A judge later slashed $450 million out sighting miscalculated damages on 13 devices, The new jury awarded Apple $290 million

Apple said 5 of its patents was infringed on. Three covered features on-screen navigation, "pinch-to-zoom" and the "bounce-back effect." The other patents covered the shape of the iPhone and on-screen icons.

Samsung argues that some of Apple's patents were invalid and that it didn't infringe those that are valid, the validity of Apple's pinch-to-zoom patent is being questioned by U.S. Patent and Trademark office, Apple was on wednesday told by the Office that its defence of the patents wasn't persuasive and asked it to submit more evidence.


Samsung will appeal to the U.s court of Appeals for the Federal District in Washington after it has made post-trial arguments to persuade the judge to reject the jury's verdict


This is not the only case between these two Phone making giants, they are fighting for the top spot in the $300 billion smartphone market around the globe...They also have cases in Germany,England,France,South Korea,Japan, The Netherlands, Australia also with inconclusive results...They were advised by the U.s District judge Lucy koh in San Jose to settle their differences but instead they would prefer to hire attorneys to defend their territory not minding millions of dollars being spent....When two elephants dey fight na the ground dey suffer.
