Search giant Google and Nigeria have joined the new Alliance for Affordable Internet, a global organisation aiming to take affordable broadband access to everyone.
During the past month, Google announced that it had joined more than 30 members of A4AI, while Nigeria became the first African country to formally join the alliance.
With over 90% of people in the 49 Least Developed Countries still not online, A4AI aims to challenge regulatory barriers and put in place initiatives to bring down the cost of access to the UN Broadband Commission target of entry-level broadband services priced at less than 5% of average monthly income.
